The Green500 List announced today that Supermicro will become the title sponsor for the November 2008 and June 2009 lists of the Green500.
Supermicro is pleased to see Green500 promoting earth-friendly computing so enthusiastically and successfully", said Charles Liang, president and CEO of Supermicro. "As part of our green IT thought leadership and goodwill to help our customers save money while saving the earth, we fully support this collaboration. Our 290GFlops/kW SuperBlade(r) servers, 93% power supply efficiency, and state of the art thermal architectures all serve as prime examples in our ongoing efforts to promote higher efficiency computing."
Since its genesis in April 2005 and the inaugural list in November 2007, the Green500 list has actively promoted the importance of energy efficiency in high-performance computing systems. During this timeframe, the energy efficiency of the top-ranked Green500 supercomputer has risen a staggering 131,000,000 floating-point operations per second/watt.
"We welcome Supermicro as the first official title sponsor for the Green500," said Wu-chun Feng, the visionary behind the Green500. "With an aligned vision in recognizing that power is just as important as performance, this fruitful partnership between Supermicro and the Green500 will continue to bring awareness to green supercomputing."
The upcoming release of the November 2008 list at SC|08 in Austin, Texas, marks the fourth official release of the Green500.
